Orientation (so far).

Hey There!

shipNot much to report back just yet.  I am meeting lots of academics and counselors and a variety of other members of the shipboard community and, like the beginnings of all of these sorts of trips, everyone is nice and on their best behavior.

I was able to get into the city of Boston the last two days and it was a really beautiful place.  The Boston Commons was a wonderful green space in the middle of the city.  The theater district was hopping with an LGBT parade.  Little Italy was a charming area where I had dinner with one of my sister’s friends from grad school (thanks again Lisa!).  The accents here are wicked awesome.  (“Get in the caah”)

The ship is nice but I get lost every time I try to go anywhere.  I try to think of memoGeorge Washingtonry mnemonics to help with all of the ship terminology (“Well if “Port” has four letters and so does “Left” I could orient myself that way…) but no matter how clever I think my methods are (“If one ‘bows’ they are facing someone, and therfore the front of the ship…and Howard ‘Stern’ would be bound to make a joke about the rear…”), I am invariably lost at every turn.  I will have it mastered soon.

Sweet FlowerMy room is cozy.  I have a roommate AND a window AND a cleaning staff that makes my bed everyday.  Yeah!  However, my roommate has been pretty serious about his “No Farting” policy.  We’ll see how that plays out over the summer…

The full-on individual training begins tomorrow and I look forward to mastering all that I need to know about my position.  There are a lot of Anxious Andrews on the ship and I will feel a bit more comfortable when I can answer their questions confidently and not just make something up about FTP servers and quickly sneak out into the nearest hallway (where I immediately become lost).Statue in Boston

We will be setting sail for Halifax in an hour and will be arriving tomorrow night.  We will see how sea sick I get and if my roommate has any sort of “No puking all over my Jacket” policy.

Life is good aboard the MV explorer.  Looking forward to what lies ahead.
